Every year, on a full moon day in August, thousands of Hindu and Buddhist devotees come here to worship Lord Shiva.  In Nepali, people call this day “Janai Purnima”. Many people bathe in the lake because it helps wash away their sins and sorrows. 

Buddhist people known as Sharmans (‘Dhami or Jhaakri’), also called Bon-Po in the Tamang language, visit here on the full moon day from all over Nepal. Sharmans perform cultural and spiritual dances during the trek, which serves as a graduation for junior Sharmans.
