Pikey Peak Trek Itinerary
Collapse AllThe first day of the trek begins early morning, around 7 AM. After having breakfast in Kathmandu, you will head towards the bus station. Today you will be heading towards Dhap via bus.
It takes 7-8 hours to reach Dhap from Kathmandu by bus. You will travel through beautiful highlands on the bank of the Sunkoshi River. Keep following the river until you reach Okhaldunga, which takes 3-4 hours. Now, as you are on the trail of Dhap, you will start gaining altitude.
After spending seven hours on a bus, you’ll finally reach your destination in Dhap. The drive from Okhaldunga to Dhap takes about 3-4 hours as you gradually climb the altitude throughout the journey. You can then introduce yourself to the local people around the area, indulge in sightseeing, or head into your hotel for an overnight stay.
Today, you will begin your journey from Dhap, and your destination is Jhapre. As you move forward, you will reach another small village in Sigane. The altitude increases, and you begin feeling cold and chilly. On the trail ahead, you’ll become familiar with the mountains of the Numbur Himal range.
In the first few hours of your trail, you will encounter different construction projects, so the roads might be dry and dirty. After a few hours, you will eventually reach Jhapre’s first settlement. When you reach Jhapre, you will be greeted by some of the best mountain panoramic views, including Mount Everest. The peaceful atmosphere of the village will hook you immediately. Overnight Stay in the tea house.
Today is the third and special day of your base camp trek, where you will be visiting Pikey Peak Base Camp. You will begin your trek ascending from Jhapre to Bhulbhule’s grassy terrains. Bhulbule Ridge has a single popular tea house which is not named, where many trekkers spend some time and have tea.
From there, you will also get a clear view of the Everest Range, motivating you even more than that extra step. Now you are only a few hours away from the Pikey Peak Base Camp.
As you move closer to the base camp, you will see mani walls, chortens, and different religious flags. You will also see different kinds of cottages of the Yak herders and can even see grazing Yaks.
As you pass through Taklung Danda, descending will begin, followed by traversing wooden trails and rhododendron forests. The fresh air will rejuvenate you as you journey through lush forests, with Pikey Peak Base Camp just two hours away. Upon emerging from the forests, you will ascend a trail and encounter a single lodge where you can take a break.
From here, you will climb a short steep peak at an altitude of 4065 meters. The most suitable time to climb the base camp peak is before daybreak, but many trekkers also reach there in the evening.
The fourth day of your trek begins with the hike toward the top of Pikey Peak. The trek starts with a steep climb for an hour or two till you reach the top. The view from the peak surrounding all the mountains, valleys, and forests below is majestic. Trekkers flock to the peak in the early morning to witness the breathtaking sunrise and panoramic mountain views, including Mount Everest.
After a few moments in the peak, you will descend back to the base camp area and take a bit of a breather. You can either have breakfast nearby or continue your trek as your destination is five to six hours away. Today’s destination is the beautiful village of Junbesi. The trail is quite peaceful and comforting; you will see several cottages with yak along the way. Before reaching Junbesi, you will come to access an old cheese factory and, if you like, can taste delicious yak cheese.
Just half an hour after leaving the factory, you will arrive in Junbesi. You can settle into your teahouse and even meet the friendly and welcoming local people.
The fifth-day trek morning begins with the delicious local breakfast. Today, you will descend a dusty and rocky trail until you reach the bank of the Junbesi Khola.
Along the way, you will come across an old monastery which you can explore and learn about the lifestyle of Buddhist people. After exploring the monastery, you will move forward towards another small village in Salleri.
Take a quick break in Salleri and keep moving forward. Along your way, you will come across a few more prayer flags, mani walls, coins, and chortens. As you reach Phaplu, the trails become much clearer and curvy, which might test your endurance. After almost six hours of intense trek, you will reach Phaplu in the evening.
Check-in your lodge and teahouse for a brief rest and then visit a big monastery in the village. It’s wise to mingle with the local people of the village as they are quite welcoming.
The last day of your Pikey Peak Trekking starts with a delicious breakfast. You will board the local bus or jeep from Phaplu to Kathmandu. The distance between the two places is over 280km, and reaching the capital city takes about 9-10 hours. You will pass through dense forests, barren landscapes, and several small settlements on your way through Kathmandu.
After returning to Kathmandu, you can either settle in your hotel for your final departure or go sightseeing. This concludes your 6-day Pikey Peak Trek, and we hope you enjoyed your stay and adventure.

Best Seasons for Pikey Peak Trek
Every trekking experience in Nepal is dependent on the seasons you are going for the trek. You can choose from four seasons, which determine the temperature, weather, air pressure, and trekking trails. We recommend researching the trek and the months it is appropriate to trek before planning your flight and trekking agency in Nepal. To make your decision easier, we have explained the weather conditions of Nepal based on the seasons.
Autumn Season
Autumn is considered to be among the best season for Pikey Peak in Nepal. You will experience this season from September to November. Many experienced trekkers prefer the Autumn season because the weather is clear all day. From the middle of September, the post-monsoon season starts, so there is significantly less chance of rainfall. The Autumn season ends after November when the weather gets cooler, but it is still suitable for trekking.
Although there is not much rainfall, local people still plant different crops on the trail’s side, making trekking more beautiful and charming.
Spring Season
Spring Season is equally famous for trekking in Nepal. Many trekkers argue about the best season, autumn or spring, for the appropriate weather and temperature. Unlike Autumn, there are slight chances of rainfall in the latter part of the season. The weather is is usually clear, so you can also stunning views of the mountains from a long distance as nsoon Season
Monsoon season is not the best for trekking or traveling, mainly because of rainfall. During this time, there will be continuous mild to heavy rain throughout the day, and sometimes, it doesn’t stop for a few days. The trails are wet, slippery, and full of leeches. At lower altitudes, the chances of floods increase, whereas at higher altitudes, the probability of landslides also increases. Hence, this is the worst season for trekking, which also affects the lodges and teahouses, which remain mostly closed.
Winter Season
Winter season is the coldest time, with frequent mountain snowfalls hindering trekkers due to cold temperatures and limited visibility. High-altitude trekking is not advised during this season. Poon Hill Trek and Pikey Peak Trek are still feasible, but clear mountain views are not guaranteed.
