Everest Base Camp with Lobuche Peak Climbing Itinerary
Collapse AllFrom Kathmandu, you will take a domestic flight to Lukla. It’s around a 30 to 40-minute flight. You will then land at Tenzing Hillary Airport, one of the world’s most dangerous airports. After reaching Lukla, stretch your legs because your trek journey will begin.
Since this is the first day of trekking, it is a short trek of around 3 hours. You will be heading to Phakding which sits at an elevation of 2610 meters. The trail passes by several villages and a few suspension bridges. The trail descends to Dudh Koshi River and arrives at Phakding.
This day’s destination is the famous Sherpa settlement village, Namche Bazaar. The picturesque village is at an elevation of 3440 meters. You will begin the trek by crossing a suspension bridge including the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge. First, you will come across the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Permit Checking Counter.
After passing the checkpoint, you will come across several settlements. Next, you will reach the Sagarmatha National Park entrance. From here onwards, you will be trekking right through the national park. You can also witness prayer flags and chortens along the way.
As you reach Namche Bazaar, Mt. Everest slowly comes into your view. Likewise, you will have to cross steep paths and ascend gradually to reach the village. The trek takes around 6 to 7 hours. You will stay here for two days.
You will spend another day at Namche Bazaar. The village is an important acclimatization stop for the Everest Base Camp Trek. There are cafes, restaurants, ATMs, and banks. It is important to stay active. It allows your body to adapt to the changing altitude and surroundings.
There is a Sherpa Culture Museum, Sagarmatha National Park Information Center, Hillary School, and ancient monasteries near Namche. You can keep yourself active by taking short hikes or exploring around.
With your body ready for higher elevation, you will leave Namche Bazaar. The next destination is Tengboche, situated at an elevation of 3880 meters. Your uphill climb will begin as you leave Namche.
The trail descends into forests and becomes rugged and uneven. It will keep descending until you get closer to the Imja River. The trail becomes steady for a while.
Then after a steep uphill climb you will reach Tengboche. Tengboche houses one of the oldest and biggest monasteries of the Khumbu region, Tengboche Monastery. You can also see mountains like Everest, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and more. The trek duration is around 5 hours.
Next, you will head towards Dingboche. It is a charming village surrounded by stone walls and sits at an elevation of 4410 meters. As you leave Tengboche, the trail will steadily ascend until Pangboche. You can see many prayer flags, mani walls, and chortens along the way.
The mountains seem to get closer as you pass by several villages. Similarly, you will follow the Lobuche River and enter Imja Valley. Then, you will finally reach the Dingboche village. The trek duration from Tengboche to Dingboche takes around 5 to 6 hours.
You will take another acclimatization day at Dingboche. On this day, you can take a short hike to the Nangkartshang Peak. It is located at an altitude of 5083 meters. The peak separates the valley from Imja Valley and is a short walk from Dingboche.
From the Nangkartshang peak, you can enjoy scenic mountain views. You can also take an alternative trek along the Imja River to Chhukung. However, this trek is longer than the Nangkartshang Peak hike. You will return and stay overnight at Dingboche.
You will head towards Lobuche which sits at an elevation of 4910 meters. It is a gentle hike until Thukla. Then, the trail will get steeper and go deeper into the valley. You will also notice that the surrounding becomes more barren with less green vegetation. The trail comes across Thukla Glacier, Khumbu Glacier, and moraine on the way.
Similarly, you will also pass by a memorial built for mountaineers who lost their lives during the Everest expedition. Its a 6 hours of trek. You can witness the mountain views like Nuptse, Lobuche, Cholaste, and Pumori from the village.
As you leave Lobuche, you will have to pass by a narrow path. The path lies in between the glacial moraine and a stone wall. There are big boulders and the trail can get slippery. Then, you will reach the dry lake bed, Gorakshep (5165 meters). You will rest and leave your luggage at Gorakshep before heading to Everest Base Camp.
The Everest Base Camp sits an elevation of 5364 meters. When you reach the base camp, you can see tents set by expedition teams. You can get excellent views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, etc. Then, you will head back to Gorakshep and stay overnight there.
On this day, you will start an early hike to Kalapathar. It is also known as Black Rock, it sits at an elevation of 5545 meters. It offers a 360-degree view of the Mt. Everest. Similarly, you can also witness surrounding mountain ranges. After exploring for a while you will descend to Gorakshep. Then you will trek back to Lobuche.
Your Everest Base Camp Trek will end here. Now it is time to prepare for the Louche Peak Climbing. The whole day’s trek from Kalapthar to Gorakshep to Lobuche takes around 7 to 8 hours.
From Lobuche, you will first head towards the Lobuche Lower Base Camp. Then, the trail will go through a rocky moraine as you get closer to Lobuche High Base Camp. The High Base Camp lies at an elevation of 5200 meters.
You will set up the camp once you reach the High Base Camp. You will spend the night there.
The climb to Lobuche Peak will begin early. It is the most difficult climb of the entire trek. You will have to use mountaineering equipment like ropes for the ascend. The Lobuche Peak stands at an elevation of 6119 meters.
The difficult climb will reward you with stunning panoramic mountain views of Everest and other surrounding peaks. After enjoying the view, you will descend as soon as possible. You will descend to Lobuche where you will stay overnight. The trek duration takes around 8 to 10 hours.
This day is separated as a contingency day for any unforeseen delays or events. We may need an extra day if we cannot climb the peak on day 1 due to weather or any other conditions.
You will leave Lobuche and head towards Phortse Village next. The trail goes through the forests of rhododendrons and junipers. Similarly, you will pass through several settlements. The Phortse Village is located at an elevation of 39930 meters. The trek from Lobuche to Phortse takes around 7 hours. You will rest here for the night.
From Phortse Village, you will next head towards Namche Bazaar. You will retrace your step back to Namche. It is an easy trek back to the village which takes around 5 to 6 hours.
Once again, you will retrace your step back to where you began your trek journey. The trail descends steeply and goes over the Dudh Koshi River. Similarly, you will once again pass through the Sagarmatha National Park. You will continue your trek ahead. After 7 hour’s trek, you will reach Lukla. Your final night at Everest region will be here.
This is the last day of the Everest Base Camp with Lobuche Peak Climbing. You will get on an early flight back to Kathmandu. You can view the mountains and beautiful landscapes one last time from the flight. The flight duration takes around 30 to 40 minutes.
