Langtang Valley Trek Itinerary
Collapse AllOn your first day of the Langtang Valley trek itinerary, you will embark on the scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubensi.
In the early morning, our representative will pick you up from your hotel and escort you to the bus station. From here, the scenic drive takes you through the rough high hills of Nepal to the rural hills of the Rasuwa district. In the midway settlements, we will take a break for lunch. Then, the further drive will take you through scenic landscape and scenery before reaching Syabru in the afternoon.
Upon arriving at Syabrubensi, you will check in to the hotel and the balance day is for rest and refreshment. Stay overnight in Syabrubensi
The second day of the Langtang Valley Trek veins with a sense of excitement and anticipation. Leaving behind the cozy village of Syabrubesi, you will embark on a journey that will lead you to the enchanting Lama Hotel.
Crossing the bridge nearby, you will begin by following a ride-side path on the trekking trails toward the Lama Hotel. The trail is comfortable and the astonishing surrounding views introduce you to the beautiful Langtang region.
During the journey, we will take a break at the picturesque Riverside teahouse to enjoy lunch. Afterward, you will continue walking on a gradually ascending trail to arrive at Rimche. From here, it takes a further 25 minutes on an easy trail to reach Lama Hotel. Stay overnight at a teahouse in the Lama Hotel.
On the third day of the Langtang Valley Trek itinerary, the trail takes you deeper into the heart of the Langtang Valley, promising breathtaking vistas and cultural encounters that would leave a lasting impression.
From the beginning of the day, you will witness the change in the landscape and trail as you begin to feel the majestic snow-capped peaks getting nearer and nearer. Admiring the natural beauty, you will pass through a steep jungle trail alongside a wide and open terrain to arrive at Ghodatabela. Here, you will take a break to catch your breath, soaking in the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the tranquil beauty of the valley. The break is also for relishing the lunch.
Leaving Ghodatabela after lunch, the trail passes through the landslide-engulfed Langtang Village and takes you to the newly reconstructed village on the other side. Stay overnight in a teahouse/lodge in Langtang Village.
Today, the short trekking trail weaves its way through rugged terrain and captivating landscapes, as you make your way towards the enchanting destination of Kyanjin Gompa. Before leaving the Langtang village, you will have time to explore the village with an opportunity to interact with the locals. Draw upon the opportunity to hear their stories and learn about their unique culture, tradition, and way of life.
After a late breakfast, you will continue the trek ascending steadily, each step bringing you closer to the sky-piercing heights of the Langtang region. The path unveils breathtaking panoramas at every turn, offering glimpses of majestic peaks on your way to Kyanjo Gompa.
Kyanjin Gompa is a fantastic example of traditional Himalayan settlements in Nepal. Upon arriving at Kyanjin, you will visit the historic Kyanji Gompa monastery and join the monks for their evening prayer. Stay overnight at a teahouse in Kyanjin.
Kyanjin Gompa includes some amazing trails that lead the trekkers to the surrounding natural viewpoints and peaks. On this day of the captivating Langtang Valley Trek, you can choose one from the three of the popular day hike options in the region – Tserku Ri (4983 m), Kyanjin Ri (4773 m), and Langshisha Kharka (4325 m). All of this hiking can be completed in around 5 hours and amazes you with fantastic views of the astonishing Langtang range. Plus, you will also have to go over the 15000 ft mark which itself is an amazing milestone to achieve.
After accomplishing the hike, take a rest for the remaining day in a teahouse. Stay overnight at Kyanjin Gompa.
On the sixth day of our Langtang Valley Trek itinerary, you will bid a fond farewell to the enchanting Kyanjin Gompa with memories of the towering peaks and the warm hospitality of the locals etched in your hearts. Today, you will embark on descending trails that retrace your footsteps back toward Rimche. As you drop further, the trail and landscape change from barren lands to lush hills.
Once again, the beautiful scenic trail passes through Langtang, Ghodatabela, and Lama Hotel before you arrive at Riche. You will reach Riche in the late afternoon. We will have lunch here and then, you can explore the place and interact with the locals. In the evening, you will enjoy a beautiful sunset from Rimche before spending a night at a local teahouse.
Today marks the last day for trekking on foot on our Langtang Valley Trek 8 days trip. The hike back to Syabrubensi is a short and relaxed one. Before starting the trek, you can visit the farms and spend some time interacting with the locals to learn about their life under the shadows of the Himalayas. You will arrive at Syabrubensi in the late afternoon, taking a rest at the riverside for lunch on your way.
Upon arriving at Syabrubensi, the remaining day is for rest at the hotel. Stay overnight in Syabrubensi.
On the final day of the remarkable Langtang Valley Trek, you will start the day with relishing breakfast before you bid farewell to the scenic town of Syabrubensi. You will embark on the scenic drive to return to Kathmandu. The beautiful hills on rivers on the roadside will keep you entertained throughout the journey.
Upon arriving in Kathmandu, our representative will transfer you to your hotel in Thamel. You can spend the remaining day exploring the Thamel Market and buy souvenirs and gifts to take back home. Stay overnight at a hotel.

Major Attractions of Langtang Valley Trek
Langtang Valley Trek is short and one of the less strenuous treks in Nepal than other treks like the Everest Base Camp Trek and Annapurna Base Camp Trek. However, plenty of major attractions make the trek well worth it. So, let’s get into them.
Traditional Tamang Villages
One of the major attractions of the Langtang Valley Trek is the exploration of the traditional Tamang Villages. Most of these Tamang Villages are inhabited by the Tamang people, who are the descendants of Tibetian Buddhists. Hence, the Tamang culture of the Langtang villages differs from that of the other major villages in Nepal. Langtang National Park
Langtang National Park is Nepal’s first Himalayan National Park, located closest to Kathmandu. The park covers an area of 1710 sq km with an additional 420 sq km buffer zone. It is situated in the Central Himalayan region, encompassing districts in the southern mountainous terrains of the Nepal-China border.
Established in 1976, the park features a wide altitudinal range from 1,000 m to 7,245 m at Langtang Lirung. Due to its unique positioning, Langtang National Park boasts diverse topography, including lush subtropical forests, picturesque valleys, alpine meadows, icy glaciers, and snow-capped peaks. Kathmandu to Syabrubesi Transportation options
The road from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi is about 80 kilometers long. Syabrubesi is a village northwest of Nepal’s capital city. It’s a starting point for people who want to go trekking in Langtang National Park. The village is 2,380 meters above sea level and can be reached by road from Kathmandu, Pokhara, or Chitwan.
The road from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi has both smooth parts and bumpy parts. It takes about 7-8 hours to drive the 80 kilometers.
First, you drive on the Prithvi Highway to the town of Galchi. Then, you’ll see the Trishuli River and the mountains in the distance. The road also goes through the Trishuli Bazaar marketplace.
Public Bus
If you’re looking for an affordable way to get to Syabrubesi, consider taking the local public buses. These buses depart daily from Kathmandu’s Gongabu Bus Park or Machha Pokhari stations between 6:30 am and 9 am. The journey takes about 7-8 hours due to the winding and poorly maintained roads, with an expected arrival time around 4 pm.
Private Vehicle
For people who want a more comfortable and flexible option than crowded local buses, hiring a private jeep is a good idea for going to Syabrubesi. It costs more, but it’s faster, and you can ask the driver to stop whenever you want. The jeep can hold 6-7 people, so you can split the cost with friends. Booking a jeep through a travel agency or with other travelers can make it more affordable. It takes about 5 hours by private jeep, much faster than the crowded local buses. If you’re willing to pay more for extra space, faster travel, and the chance to see mountain views, a private jeep is a good choice for going to Syabrubesi.
Langtang Valley Trek Route
Langtang Valley Trek is probably Nepal’s third most popular trekking destination, other than Everest and Annapurna Base Camp trek. Although it is a relatively small trek, the trek route of the Langtang Valley is quite popular among local and foreign trekkers. The trek route passes through different terrains, from subtropical forests to temperate peaks and valleys to the snowy mountains.
Furthermore, if you want to spend more time in the valley, you can add some additional trekking routes and reach the glacial region of Gosaikunada. Along the trekking route of the Langtang Valley, you will pass through different places like Syabrubesi, Lama Hotel, Langtang Village, Kyanjin Gompa, Tserko Ri, and Gosaikunda.
The classic route starts from a village called Sabrubensi and goes up to Kyanjing Gompa. It has different scenery, mountains, and friendly villages. You can go on a challenging day hike to see great views. Langtang has another route on the other side of the valley that feels like a new adventure.

Low Altitude and Short Treks in Langtang Region
Langtang Valley is a short and low-altitude trek in Nepal and the Langtang region. However, the trekkers must not be complacent, mistaking it for the easy trek in Nepal. The Langtang Valley trek is shorter and does not have to climb very high altitudes compared to other treks in Nepal, like Everest Base Camp Trek.
The duration of the Langtang Valley Trek extends from 7 to 10 days. Among those days, you will spend 6 to 8 days trekking, and the rest will be spent just traveling from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi and returning.
The highest altitude of this trek is still over 4500m, which is on par with Annapurna Base Camp Trek, Manaslu Circuit Trek, and others. Although you will still have the possibility of altitude sickness, this trek is easier because you will only spend about two days at the high altitude.
Langtang After the 2015 Earthquake
After the catastrophic natural disaster, not many places, villages, or even luxurious cities recover for many, many years. However, Langtang region or, more specifically, Langtang Village. After a massive earthquake and avalanche wiped out the entire village, the local authorities, communities, Nepal Government, Nepal Tourism Board, and the public joined forces to rebuild the village after the earthquake. The rebuilding of Langtang Village began right away. When the second earthquake struck, local survivors had already been helped, and the temporary camps were safer.
Life was difficult, but it started with finding shelter in temporary housing. External support was just a rumor because the Langtang Lirung avalanche destroyed the routes to Langtang Villages. However, the local people quickly took charge of their survival. They built several temporary camps using stones and timber and cleared the debris for the settlement. Months later, Langtang village received support from national and international volunteers. Since then, homes, hotels, and gompas have been rebuilt. There are now schools, clinics, and a new community center where villagers can gather.
Langtang Region was one of the underrated trekking destinations before the 2015 earthquake. It was gradually becoming one of the underrated treks, and tourists were starting to arrive in the region. On April 25, 2015, Nepal suffered a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that impacted the loss of life and property all around Nepal. However, Langtang Village suffered the most. After the earthquake, it seemed normalcy began, but the people of Langtang Village were not prepared for what was coming. Huge avalanches broke just above the Khumbu glacier, resulting in a dreaded avalanche that buried the whole Langtang village. About 300 people died in the natural disaster, but most of all, the entire village was wiped out.

Cultural Aspect of Langtang Valley

The traditions and culture of the Tamang heritage are quite special. They have a distinct dress, culture, language, and social structure. The Tamang people speak a language similar to the Tibetano-Burman language called Tamang. They originally used a script known as Sambhota, but some groups, like the Nepal TamangGhedung, use a modified version called Tamyig. About 90% of Tamang people practice Buddhism. Although they don’t follow the Hindu caste system, they are diverse and are divided into approximately 100 sub-clans, each with its own clans and family sects.
A typical day in Langtang Valley Trek
A typical day in the Langtang Valley trek consists of trekking in the stunning trails, acclimatization, clicking beautiful pictures, and resting in the teahouses. Here is the general breakdown of the typical day in the Langtang Valley Trek.
7 AM to 8 AM: Wake up early and prepare for your trek. From 7 AM to 8 AM, you will have your breakfast. After 8 AM, you will start your initial portion of the trek.
8 AM to 12 PM: You will commence your day’s trek after breakfast. After about 4 to 5 hours of trekking, you will stop at the lovely restaurants where your guide will take you to where you can have some delicious dishes.
12 PM to 1 PM: After lunch, rest and acclimate for about an hour to regain your energy. Acclimatization during high altitudes is quite common and essential.
1 PM to 4 PM: The final portion of the trek begins at 1 PM, and if you are trekking in the Spring or August, you will enjoy the majestic sunny days. The sun cast shadows on the mountain valley, which looks gorgeous. You will trek for about 3 to 4 hours until you reach the teahouse you will be staying in.
4 PM to 5 PM: Reach the teahouses around 4 to 5 PM and check in to your teahouse. You can have a little break in your teahouse and then stroll around the village. Meet with the local people and visit the local temples, monasteries, and stupas. Participate in the local program around the fire and bond with your crew and the locals.
5 PM to 7 PM: It’s dinner time in the teahouses of your village. In the higher altitude of Nepal, the dinner is served early on, around 5 to 6 PM. You can choose from local delicacies like Dal, Bhat, and Tarkari, but in some teahouses, you can also choose from Western dishes like pizzas, burgers, dumplings, spaghetti, and others.
8 PM to 10 PM: Finally, it’s time for rest, and call it a day. You will be tired from the hard day trek and will be trekking for seven hours the next day. So go to bed early and rest for the next day. Hence, this is the typical day in the Langtang Valley.
Weather and Temperature of Langtang Valley Trek

Spring Season

The most common menu for lunch is the local Nepali dish Dal, Bhat, and Tarkari, which means Rice, Lentils, and Vegetable curry. There are other options for lunch, such as Pizzas, Spaghetti, fried rice, pasta, burgers, dumplings etc.
Dinner
The last meal of the day is dinner. After reaching another teahouse in the evening, you will rest briefly and have dinner around 7 PM. When staying at the Hotels of Langtang Valley Trek, dinner must be eaten at the hotel where you spend the night. The dinner options are similar to those mentioned for lunch. Additionally, there are dessert options such as chocolate cake, apple pie, rice pudding, chocolate pudding, apple fritter, and more.
Drinks

To get relief from the cold, trekkers often drink hot lemon ginger tea as well. Despite the relatively short walking distance of 65 kilometers for the Langtang Valley Trek, the trail’s uphill and downhill terrain can be quite challenging.

Rough trails
The rough trails are another major difficulty that the trekkers face during the Langtang Valley Trek. You will pass through several rough peaks and valleys, through lower altitudes, to the glacial moraines and the snowy peaks. The weather changes completely, so even if you are trekking on sunny summer days, it suddenly changes to black rain clouds and sometimes extreme snowfall. These sudden weather changes can halt the flow of the trek and sometimes can even block your path completely.
Best time to Visit Langtang Valley Trek
August
August is the best time to trek the Langtang Valley. For the Himalayan adventure, you want to be trekking in the chilly weather, and the views of the mountains are clear. The August season is perfect for the stunning trek in the Langtang Valley. The season begins in September and ends in November. The early part of September does receive rainfall as it falls in the post-monsoon season. The weather and temperature of this season are appropriate for the treks in Nepal. During the August season, the flowering trails are replaced with green and brown amber leaves, which change the hue of the surroundings to golden in color, especially during sunrise and sunset.
Off Seasons

Electricity and Internet are available throughout the Langtang Valley trek. Both NTC and Ncell sim cards operate for most parts of the trail. Electricity is usually solar-powered; you might have to pay extra for charging your devices in some places. You can access Wi-Fi at tea houses along the trail for about USD 2 or USD. However, the reliability of the Wi-Fi varies depending on the altitude.
It’s more dependable at lower altitudes, and you might not have to pay for it there. Look for a sign that says “Free Wi-Fi” to find tea houses that offer the service at no cost. Keep in mind that the Wi-Fi connection might be slow due to overcrowding. You can use Wi-Fi for about 90% of the trek. A mobile network is available until Kyanjin Gompa; you’ll need a local sim card. The two options are Ncell and NTC sim, with Ncell offering better coverage. You can buy 1 GB of data for around 1 to 5 USD, which can be used wherever the network is available in the country.
Electricity is available all over the Langtang Valley. Electricity is constantly available at lower altitudes, especially in towns and cities.
