I’ve just completed a trip to Gokyo Lakes with Hillary Step Treks, and am happily reflecting on what an amazing experience it was. From the start, Hari guided us with itineraries, packing lists, and other ways to make the hike a success. We chose to visit in the off-season; December brings colder weather, but crisp blue sky days and uncrowded trails made it worthwhile!
The Gokyo Lakes trek is magnificent- once you reach Gokyo, you have two days of panoramic views of Everest and surrounding peaks. The scenery throughout the walk is breathtaking, as you ascend and descend through valleys buttressed by imposing mountains.
Our porter, Bikas, was instrumental in helping transport our gear, and keeping us amply hydrated. Hari kept us on track with his local wisdom and a great sense of humor, which are both necessities in the Himalayas.
I can highly recommend both Hari and Hillary Step Treks to organize your trip of a lifetime to Nepal!

What a trip! Could not be happier with the trip, trek, weather and more importantly, our guide, HARI!!! Harka was amazing along the way at setting up our trip with us from across the world, and meeting us in person to go over what to expect. Everything was taken care of completely for us. We did the Poon Hill Trek, which was incredible, and all of the food, stops and lodging along the way exceeded expectations. It is easy to find reviews on the trek, but one thing you are never sure of is how your guide is going to be, and we ended the trek feeling as though we had traveled with a trusted professional, but more importantly gained a friend and brother in Hari. Hari was knowledgeable, friendly, patient, helpful and put up with all of our shenanigans from a group of American guys. We looked forward to spending time with him at the end of each day, and making memories and laughter over a meal and few beers at the end of the day. I contacted Hari and Harka wanting to do a trek that would allow me to experience both the mountains and the culture of Nepal. Although I had a specific route in mind, Harka and Hari designed an even better trek based on my desired experience. I did the Ruby Valley trek with Hari and his team in October. We stayed in the homes of villagers each night who also cooked for us. The most special part of the trek was getting to stay in the village where Hari and his team had grown up. They had not seen their families in years and we were overcome with emotion watching the reunion. It was a moment I will never forget! Every step of the way, Hari and his team made sure that my friends and I had what we needed to feel comfortable and enjoy the trek. After my friends went home, I continued on with Hari to complete the Langtang trek. I have recommended Hari, Harka, and their team to everyone I have encountered who wants to trek in Nepal. You will not find better care anywhere else!
