Just finished a 5-day trek to Annapurna Base Camp with Hillary Step Treks and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. If you’re thinking about trekking in the Himalayas, go with Hillary Step Treks (more details below) for a good deal and great service. I’ll absolutely book with them again.
We booked about a month out, and Hari made everything super easy despite the short timeline. They were flexible with gear (you can use theirs or bring your own), and the whole booking process was smooth.
The guide Milan and porter Bishal were the best. I was a little nervous going in because I’ve had altitude issues before, but Milan said we’d keep things easy. We maintained a steady pace and the whole trek was very manageable. He really knows what he’s doing and is incredible kind and humble. Each day he made sure we had a safe hike with great vibes. In the evenings we had plenty of solo time to recharge before the next day’s adventure.
Bishal brought such a fun energy to our journey. He shared great Nepalese music with us and even learned some Russian phrases for my husband, which was a highlight. Then we ended up all learning a little Nepalese over some popcorn, juice and local wine on the last night (if you know you know).
The views were unreal (especially near MBC), but what really made the trip stand out was the comradery and outstanding service.
*we’re a moderately fit 30s couple that hikes often but we saw a ton of people 10-80 hiking the trail. As long as you have a good guide you’ll be fine hiking ABC.

We completed the trek to ABC via Poon Hill. Firstly the communication for planning the trip was first class, this made it easier for us to arrange our trip from Australia ahead of arriving in Kathmandu. Our guide, Gyani made sure we were on track each day, keeping us well informed of our progress as well as the notable locations and villages we were passing through. Unfortunately for us the Poon Hill morning it was raining heavily but after 10 minutes we decided to turn back. The tea houses we stayed in were good but no heating after Chomrong was a shock. After 6 days trekking we arrived at ABC very tired but very happy to achieve this goal. Due to a head cold we decided to chopper back to Pokhara which was an absolute highlight of the trip. Great attention and care from Gyani the whole time and took so many great photos and video for us as well which we did not expect. We could not have done this without our amazing porters as well, they truly saved our life and we really appreciate their efforts with our heavy bags! Overall an amazing experience with a great supportive team and really assisted with last minute changes to our plans for the return trip.

Gyanendra our guide did everything possible to ensure our trip was fun safe and rewarding. Gyanendra did heaps of photos along the way which was excellent helping us document the trip well. He was knowledgeable and has excellent English with a great sense of humour. The companies communication was excellent prior to the trip and every connection from pick up to drop off and flights in between were without any hassle. Honestly the flexibility and accomodation they provided every step of our trip was outstanding. I would recommend them if I was travelling solo also they were very trustworthy and safety was a priority. I cried when I had to say goodbye to our Kind eyed porter as I couldn’t have done the trek to ABC without him picking up my left behind objects and keeping me in his sights at all times. A wonderful experience that I can genuinely recommend to anyone.

My wife and I had an absolutely terrific trekking experience with Hillary Step and I highly recommend the company. We did the Everest Panorama trek and added a night at the Everest View Hotel (which although pricy, I strongly urge you to consider).
My good vibes with Hillary Step began in the planning stage when I first contacted Hari. After spotty communication with a competitor company, I found Hillary Step and Hari and reached out to start planning a trek. Hari was always responsive and promptly answered my questions. He never left me hanging like the other company. Then when I asked about customizing the trip by adding a night at the Everest View Hotel, he made it very easy to modify the itinerary.
Now the for best part of the trek. Our guide was DB and he was superb. I never expected to get such an experienced and capable professional guide. I thought we’d get some lightly experienced kid and I was pleasantly surprised. DB not only has an encyclopedic knowledge of the Nepal mountains and various other treks, he also shared a lot of historical and cultural information that really helped round out our overall experience. And he was just as friendly and personable as an old friend. Thanks DB!
I was surprised and pleased to find that we were not made part of a larger group. It was just me, my wife, and DB. Despite being an older couple we are experienced hikers and backpackers and I was concerned that we’d be grouped with others and that we would be forced to trek at the pace of the slowest member of group. Not true! I suggest that Hari make this clear during the planning stage since it is a really huge positive! We had a private trekking experience and did not expect that. A minor criticism is that we had to pay cash for anything and everything we drank and at all breaks and meals. This got a little tedious. I suggest that usual and customary beverages be factored into the trip cost as was already the case with meals, lodging etc.
The bottom line is we had great trek, worked with great people, and had a wonderful experience that we will never forget. If we are lucky enough to return to Nepal I will certainly work with this company again. I recommend booking with Hillary Step without any hesitation.

If I could give this Everest Base Camp trek more than 5 stars, I absolutely would.
This journey was not just about reaching EBC—it was about the people who made every single step meaningful.
First, my guide Lal—truly exceptional. patience , knowledgeable, and incredibly attentive. At high altitude, where every breath matters, having someone so experienced and reassuring made all the difference. He didn’t just guide the route—he guided the entire experience, from cultural insights to making sure I was safe, warm, and mentally strong.
Then there’s my porter, Veskumar. Honestly, I don’t think words are enough. Carrying heavy loads through tough terrain and unpredictable weather, yet always with quiet strength and a smile. Watching his resilience was deeply humbling. He is the real hero of this trek.
And of course, Hari, the travel agent who made everything seamless from the very beginning. From planning to execution, everything was smooth, well-organized, and stress-free. You can tell he genuinely cares about creating a meaningful experience.
The Everest region itself is breathtaking, raw landscapes, and a kind of silence that makes you reflect on life in a completely different way. But what made this journey unforgettable was the team behind it.
I came here for the mountains, but I’m leaving with deep respect, gratitude, and memories that will stay with me for life.

This was our second expedition with Hillary Step, having decided on a Mera Peak climb after our first trek to Mardi Himal with Hari back in Oct '24. The trip was perfectly organized from the start, including a thorough virtual briefing a week before to ensure everything was in order.
Our senior guide, DB, was exceptional—incredibly knowledgeable about the mountains and seemingly everything else under the sun in Nepal. We also loved our porter, Utera, who was impressively fast and always ready to help. The trek began beautifully, winding through lush forests and quiet villages where we felt like we had the entire trail to ourselves.
When the trip took an unexpected turn after AMS struck at 5,000m, the coordination between DB and Hari with the lodge & insurance was incredibly assuring. Oxygen assistance and a helicopter rescue were arranged and we felt taken care of.
Since our climb ended earlier than expected, Hari and DB kindly pivoted to lead us on an alternative guided tour of the Ganesh Himal region. This was a true off-the-beaten-path experience, starting with a rugged 7-hour off-road drive. Whilst the road was precarious to say the least, we did not once feel unsafe as the driver clearly knew what he was doing. Staying at their home village of Chalish, exploring the Ruby Valley, and immersing ourselves in the local culture made for a perfect, albeit unplanned, second half of our journey.
Already missing the rhythm of the trail—the snow-capped horizons, the Mani walls, the Sherpa-run lodges, and of course, the daily diet of dhal bhat and Thukpa. Beyond the landscapes, it’s the genuine company of the team that stays. We’ll definitely be back for a third trip . Outstanding service and even better people.

As an experienced traveler, I can confidently say that Hillary Step Treks operates at an exceptionally high professional level. Together with them, we successfully summited Mera Peak, and the overall experience exceeded expectations in every aspect.
The expedition involved numerous unexpected challenges: our departure had to be postponed due to the war in the Middle East, our flight to Lukla was canceled because of severe weather, and during our return, Lukla Airport remained closed for three days. Did the 19-day Kanchanjunga trek solo with Hillary Step Treks and it was a fantastic experience. My guide Milan was honestly one of the best parts of the whole trip. He's knowledgeable, kind, and humble, making you feel comfortable from day one. He kept a steady pace, always had great vibes on the trail, and made sure every day was safe and enjoyable. Never felt rushed or stressed. He really knows what he's doing and cares about the person he's trekking with.
The trek itself is stunning and quite remote (2 days of travel just to get to the start). Raw Himalayan scenery with barely anyone around, Kanchanjunga is something else!

Our 3 day Poon Hill trek was an incredible experience from start to finish with Hillary Step Trekking. Even with a few days of rain, the scenery was absolutely stunning - misty forests, endless terraces of mountain farms, and glimpses of snow covered peaks that took our breath away. Watching the clouds dance over the Annapurna range and thru the valleys felt like pure magic. Hari runs some excellently well-oiled (and flexible!) treks and if you decide to partake, you'll be able to basically sit back and enjoy a hassle-free trek experience fully able to ejoy the incredible sights that the Himalayas have to offer without virtually any logistics to worry about. I found his staff to be well-trained and very professional, if a little on the quieter side, and I felt taken care of the entire time. Personally, I would perhaps have liked a little more interaction with my guide or additional information about what we saw throughout.
If you're thinking of doing the ABC via Poon Hill trek, I'd recommend purchasing a SIM card beforehad (Telecom NOT Ncell), and to consider doing the trek in a group setting, which I think the company is better suited to cater to. Also note that late May sees remarkably fewer visitors than April, especially in the first stages of the trip. All things considered, Hillary Step Treks is a reliable, secure and tested partner to link up with!

Although I had a specific route in mind, Harka and Hari designed an even better trek based on my desired experience. I did the Ruby Valley trek with Hari and his team in October. We stayed in the homes of villagers each night who also cooked for us. The most special part of the trek was getting to stay in the village where Hari and his team had grown up. They had not seen their families in years and we were overcome with emotion watching the reunion. It was a moment I will never forget! I did a 3-week trek with Hari and his team around Manaslu and the Tsum Valley Circuit.
The trek itself, the scenery, mountains, valleys, rivers, people,..were simply Epic.
Hari and our porters (Siri his nephew and Chitra his uncle) were wonderful and I a great time talking and joking with them.
As for the dificulty of the trek, i would consider most days of moderate difficulty with a few hard ones now and then like pass-day.
In Tsum Valley we did several interesting homestays and stayed one night in a Tibetan monastery (Mu Gompa).
At 3700m, and placed on a ridge, it was very windy and chilly but very interesting to spend the night there nonetheless.
All in all I enjoyed the trek a lot and would like to come back for a spring season trek.
About Hari and his team I have nothing but praise.
They're very easy-going, well-organised and fun to be around with.
In other words, you'll be in very good hands!

We travelled as a couple to Kathmandu for the Anna Purna Base Camp Trek with Heli Return. From the moment we contacted Hari we knew we were in good hands. He was very responsive over email during the planning stages of our trek. My girlfriend and I did the trek in May this year. We had the pleasure of traveling with Ramesh as our guide and Milan as our porter.
Ramesh was a great guide. He has a lot of experience and knows English well, so the communication was smooth. During the trekking we had nice conversations about the local features, life in Nepal or the history of the valley. But Ramesh also recognized when we needed time for ourselves and just wanted to hike in peace and unwind.
Milan is an incredibly nice and cheerful person. As he is actually also a guide, he also speaks good English. He was always in a good mood during the entire tour, including the pass crossing, and always had a smile on his face despite the large carrier bag.
The trek is very varied and was a wonderful experience. You start on the very busy and well-developed Annapurna Trek from Chamje to Koto. Here we hiked in forested areas, sometimes on the road, where jeeps and motorcycles can also be seen. You can clearly see the impact tourism has had on the area. Modern buildings have been erected everywhere and there are many hotels and restaurants. From Koto, we left the Annapurna Trail in the direction of the Nar Phu Valley. In contrast to the route to Koto, the Nar Phu Valley is much quieter and less touristy. On average, we saw maybe 1-2 other tourists per day. The villages and the whole trek feel much more untouched and authentic. The villages are still mainly supplied by mules. In Nar, Ramesh took us to a Buddhist monastery where we were able to take part in a ceremony. The locals are incredibly friendly and helpful. During a walk through the village in Phu, we were spontaneously invited by a nice lady to a religious lecture in the village. During the lecture, the participants were served tea and local food, among other things. The highlight of the trek was finally crossing the pass. We started the day at 4:30 am before sunrise. Ramesh and Milan took very good care of us. They took regular breaks and kept reminding us to eat and drink. After the Kang-La Pass you are back on the Annapurna trek and walk the last days back to the starting point.
The organization and communication with Hillary Step Treks was also flawless. All our wishes were catered for. We were warmly welcomed at the airport in Kathmandu and driven to our hotel. As we traveled on to Pokarah after the trek, the rest of our luggage, which was unnecessary for the trek, was transported there directly. Hari also helped us choose a hotel in Pokhara and stored our luggage there.
All in all, my girlfriend and I were more than satisfied with the service. Ramesh and Milan were always accommodating and really went out of their way to make sure we had the best experience possible. Should we ever have the opportunity to travel to Nepal again, we will definitely book another trek with Hillary step trek!

I’ve just completed a trip to Gokyo Lakes with Hillary Step Treks, and am happily reflecting on what an amazing experience it was. From the start, Hari guided us with itineraries, packing lists, and other ways to make the hike a success. We chose to visit in the off-season; December brings colder weather, but crisp blue sky days and uncrowded trails made it worthwhile!
The Gokyo Lakes trek is magnificent- once you reach Gokyo, you have two days of panoramic views of Everest and surrounding peaks. The scenery throughout the walk is breathtaking, as you ascend and descend through valleys buttressed by imposing mountains.
Our porter, Bikas, was instrumental in helping transport our gear, and keeping us amply hydrated. Hari kept us on track with his local wisdom and a great sense of humor, which are both necessities in the Himalayas.

I would like to give this trek the title "The Best Trek in Nepal" because it was such an amazing adventure to Gosaikunda and Langtang village. Truly a beautiful trek! We first trekked to Kyanjing Gompa, and climbed Tsergo Ri and head to Gosaikunda Lake. The guide was highly experienced, had all the knowledge about Langtang national park, village, Gosaikunda lake. We, My daughter (Cass), and I did Nar Phu Valley Trek with Hillary Step Treks, Hari, who organize this trek as well as he was our guide. He was a very good guide who can speak excellent English, explain the route, local culture, and Nepal, Providing us best services. And our Porter was Suzan & Saroz. They were very strong and helpful. The Trek to Narphu Valleyu is Supper beautiful. So, I highly recommend visiting Nar Phu Valley Trek with HST and these guys.

My friend and I traveled with HST via Gokyo Lake to the Everest Base Camp, and it was the most incredible trip. Hari, our tour guide, was encouraging, seasoned, and well-informed. He gave us a lot of insight into the culture and people in addition to all the trekking advice, plus he is a fantastic photographer. Thanks to him, we captured the most stunning images.
Everything was very well planned out, including the meals and lodging. The porters were also incredibly trustworthy and willing to go above and above (sometimes very literally) to make sure we were happy and had the finest time.
Anyone who wants to embark on such treks or adventures in Nepal should check out HST, in my opinion. I can't wait to return to Nepal for more exciting experiences.

I did the Annapurna Base Camp in March 2023 with HST and had the absolute best time! We had a group of 9 people with the BEST guide Hari. Our guides, Assistance Guide(Shurpa), and porters were the absolute nicest and such a fun group to spend our trek with. We had such an amazing experience hiking to Annapurna Base Camp, and a lot of it had to do with the incredible guides and porters who really took care of us. Ask for a detailed itinerary before your trip so you can train properly and come prepared, although flexibility is necessary if terrain changes or other weather events occur. Along the way, you can expect lots of dancing from the music-loving porters, unbelievable views, and delicious tea and Meals. If you’re thinking about trekking in Nepal, you won’t regret going with Hillary Step Treks!

Trekking the Everest Three High Passes. was a remarkable experience that altered my life. I was part of a small group, which improved the encounter and made it more intimate. For our EBC journey in 2018, Hari Bahadur Gurung is an extremely knowledgeable and skilled tour guide. He has all the knowledge necessary to lead you and gives you all the information you need to climb or trek the EBC (such as information on altitude sickness, medications, meals, emergency evacuation via helicopter, and other topics). We finished the EBC journey in 11 days with a group of 11 persons, including two children who were 9 and 11 years old.

Doing the trek with Hari was a great experience as he ensured that it was tailored to our different fitness levels. He always picked the best guesthouses and asked for feedback to ensure they had a good stay (and will change the guesthouses that we’re not up to standard in the future). Hari made the trek fun and he shared all his knowledge along the way (we had lots of questions!). Hari was very quick to communicate via email and WA and also adapted to changes quickly (as one of us missed our flight and he changed the itinerary for us at the last minute). Harka was amazing along the way at setting up our trip with us from across the world, and meeting us in person to go over what to expect. Everything was taken care of completely for us. My group of friends have engaged service of Hari for the EBC trek in 2012, Manaslu 2013, Upper Mustang 2014 and Gokyo Ri 2017. Next year 2023 we may trek again in Nepal and for sure, we will engage Hari again.
Hari has been very accommodating with us, always tries his best to take care of our meals especially with individuals of diverse preferences eg vegetarian and non vegetarian meals. He is also flexible and resourceful enough to deal with individuals who have to abandon the trek because of acute mountain sickness. For instance, he could find horses for those who are too exhausted to walk and even helicopter when flights at Lukla airport were canceled.
Lastly, he has a very cheerful and likeable personality. Never a dull moment with him around. Highly Recommend to Hari & His Company Hillary Step Treks.

I was first introduced to him by a friend who went for hiking in nepal for more than 7/8 different occasion. Hari is extremely helpful, funny and easygoing person. I had travelled to annapurna circuit and the 3 passes trek with him and he does everything he can to make sure our group can make it through safely while checking on our condition and offering assistance regularly.
The biggest plus point is that he is trustworthy and reliable so that when unexpected situation hits, you know that he will definitely have your back!

We were three friends going for the trek Gokyo-Cho la Pass-EBC over 15 days back in 2019. Hari has been the perfect guide. One of us had severe altitude sickness at Gokyo but Hari remained calm thanks to his experience and instead of sending him back with the helicopter, he prepared and suggested an alternative route first to go down by 600 meters to feel better and then to explore less touristic areas. It was a good alternative where we were immersed in the local culture. We had as well two porters Bikash and Shem who were both very reliable. Overall a great experience, we will be back!
